Consecutive Pro Street points championships, a running joke that we’ve built a 4.8-second bracket truck, and an invite to race at the PDRA World Finals? Yeah, you could say we ended the 2020 season on a high-note.

Despite a rainout at the Hardway Sunshine Showdown, the final ODSS event of the year, we had just enough time to prove the Stainless Diesel Dodge is capable of running consistent 4.80s. Right off the trailer on Friday, driver Johnny Gilbert bolted through the eighth-mile in 4.84 seconds, just two tenths off the 4.82 record he set back in August. The next trip out, Johnny grabbed the number 1 qualifier with a 4.86 at 155 mph. On Saturday, and hoping for a chance to break into the 4.70s, we threw a more aggressive tune-up at the ECM. Unfortunately, due to the lingering weather system from Hurricane Sally it wasn’t meant to be. “Mathematically, based on this year’s data we knew we could do it,” Johnny said, “but the track just wasn’t there on Saturday.”

But even with a cooler track and having to make passes in between rain showers, Johnny still managed a 4.92 on the truck’s last pass of the weekend. After that the sky opened up, the race was called, and the points lead we brought with us to Florida—combined with attendance points awarded for showing up and additional points for earning the number 1 qualifier—put us on top of Pro Street for the year. Beyond the Pro Street repeat, our team grew as a whole in pushing the truck past the 5.0 barrier this season, setting new class records for both E.T. and trap speed, and being one of the most consistent performers on the ODSS circuit.

Now, we’re setting our sights on the PDRA World Finals, where we’ll be part of an invite-only, ODSS Quick 8 Diesel Shootout taking place at Virginia Motorsports Park on October 25th. In going up against the quickest Pro Mod diesels in the country, our heavier Pro Street truck will definitely have its work cut out for it—but it’s a challenge we whole-heartedly accept. And you can guarantee we’ll be unleashing our 4.70 tune-up on what many professional racers believe is the fastest track in the nation. Stay tuned!
